Virgil J. Malburg, age 89, of Metamora, Ohio, entered into eternal rest early Saturday morning, January 26, 2019, at The Toledo Hospital, following a recent stroke. He was born May 19, 1929 in Ogden Township, Michigan to Fred and Agnes (Liptow) Malburg. He attended St. Mary's School, and enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he served in the 369th Engineer Amphibious Regiment in Fort Worden, Washington during the Korean Conflict. On May 7, 1955, he married the love of his life, Donnabelle "Donna" Vollmar. Donna preceded him in death on April 23, 2016.
Virgil worked 38 years at the Champion Spark Plug Company. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish, St. Vincent DePaul Society and Catholic War Veterans Post #306. He was proud of his service to his country, and in 2014 was honored to go on Honor Flight to Washington D.C. He was a wonderful and devoted husband, father and grandfather, who loved spending time with his family.
Virgil is survived by his children, Greg (Carol) Malburg, Kathy (Tim) Wollin, James (Julie) Malburg, Virginia (Mike) Stoltz, Tom (Lisa) Malburg; grandchildren, Greg, Jr., Amanda Clark, Joseph, Brandon, Tyler, Alex, and Angela, Aaron Wollin, Courtney, Jerry and Michael Stoltz, Alex Tipping, Ashely Robinson, Augie Tipping, and Anderson Tipping and 9 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his siblings, Adeline Adams, Jerry (Mary Ann) Malburg and Eileen Ross; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jerry (Debbie) Vollmar and Kent (Denise) Vollmar, Kay Vollmar and Sally Vollmar; as well as several nieces; nephews and cousins.
Besides his beloved wife, Donna, Virgil was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Donald Malburg and sister, Ione Walter.
Family and friends may visit Tuesday, January 29th from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Metamora, where a Fireman's Service will begin at 7:00 p.m., followed by a CWV Service, and will conclude with a Vigil service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue Wednesday, January 30th from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Assumption where a Mass of Resurrection will begin at 11:30 a.m., with Fr. Michael Dandurand presiding. Interment, with Military Rites, will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.
