August 14, 2023, on his 69th wedding anniversary, Almer Roscoe Vaughn (Al), 89, passed away peacefully in Acworth, GA with his beloved wife Joanne (Zeller), and family at his side. Al was one of twelve children born on June 13, 1934 to Curtis and Marie Vaughn in Monterey, Tennessee. Al worked at Libby Owens Ford Glass Factory for almost 40 years. He was proud to serve his country in the US Army, National Guard and Reserves for 6 years and was also a lifetime member of the American Legion.
Al adored his wife Joanne; she was his first and only love. He lived a full and active life keeping busy with his children, their families, and extended family. Al was the best handy man you could find, if it was broken, his hammer and duct tape could fix it. Al also enjoyed fishing, golfing, and camping. He loved a good NASCAR race and had his daily dose of wrestling. He was known for his signature blue plaid shirt, baseball cap and ready smile. He was a very devoted husband, brother, father, and most cherished grandpa. Faith in God and love for his family played a very large part in his life journey.
Al was predeceased by both his parents, Marie and Curtis Vaughn, and six siblings: Willard Vaughn, Billy Vaughn, Sheridan Vaughn, Anna Collins, Gwen Loftis, and Betty Eads. He is survived by his wife, Joanne, their 5 children: Debra (Rex) Chamberlain, David (Betsy), Alan (Wendy), Steven (Meg), and Mark (Kristy) Vaughn; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He leaves behind five siblings:, Fern Campbell, Bonnie Bartlett, Donny Vaughn, and Maxine Hite, and Wilma Swank.
Visitation will be held Friday, August 18th from 3:00 to 7:00 pm at Weigel Funeral Home in Swanton. Funeral services will take place Saturday, August 19th at 11:00 am in the funeral home with Pastor David Rison presiding. Interment at Highland Memory Gardens will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation or American Legion of Luckey, Ohio.
