Angela “Rita” Hillyer, age 88, of Assumption, entered into eternal rest, Wednesday afternoon, March 26, 2008, at the Flower Hospital. She was born October 6, 1919 in Assumption to the late Lucas and Mary (Simon) Noe. Rita worked for Pinkerton Tobacco Company in Toledo, where she met Charles Hillyer. They were married May 5, 1951. He died August 17, 1951 of a sudden heart attack. She raised their son, Charles, and worked at Wauseon Wire Manufacturing until her retirement.

Rita was a faithful member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish in Assumption and member of the Altar and Rosary Society. For several years, she washed and ironed the church altar cloths and cleaned the church’s sanctuary. She enjoyed flower gardening, crocheting and word puzzles. Rita was a person who looked out for other people in the community and was a caregiver to all.

Rita is survived by her son, Charles Hillyer of Maumee, OH and loving grand-niece and special caregiver, Pam (Mark) Loeffler, and their children, Derek, Megan and Collin, who were the love of her life, as well as several grand nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband Charles, Rita was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Othilla Davis and Marcella Blankley and brothers, Giles Noe, Xystus “Zig” Noe, Linus “Lee” Noe and Fidelius “Dike” Noe.

Friends and family may visit Friday, March 28th from 6 to 8 p.m. at Weigel Funeral Home in Metamora. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 29th at Holy Trinity Catholic Church at Assumption, where visitation will be one hour prior to the Mass. Fr. Frederick Snyder will officiate. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
