Barbara J. Vaculik, age 82, of Metamora, Ohio, passed peacefully, Monday, March 20, 2017, at Ebeid Hospice in Sylvania, with her loving family at her side. She was born on June 26, 1934 in Toledo, Ohio to George and Mildred (Nulph) Shoemaker. On November 8, 1952, she married Frank Vaculik at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Assumption. Barb was a homemaker who raised their four children.
In her younger years, Barb loved playing softball on the Lytton Fox Hunters Softball League. She also enjoyed attending her kids and grandkids games. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish in Assumption and its Altar Rosary Society, and St. Mary’s Catholic War Veterans Post #306 Ladies Auxiliary in Assumption.
Barb will be remembered as a social bug, and a meticulous housekeeper, who especially loved sweeping. She looked forward to her daily outings with the Metamora Restaurant Club where she would catch up on the daily happenings around town.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Frank; children, Michael (Judy) Vaculik, Penny (Sonny) Gollar, Amy (Billy) Schmitz and Ellen (Rick) Holsclaw; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Sampsel; several nieces and nephews; and very dear friend, Bernice Pinkelman.
Barb was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Bill Shoemaker.
Visitation will be held Friday, March 24th from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Metamora, where a CWV Ladies Auxiliary Service will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by the recitation of the Rosary. A Mass of Resurrection will be held Saturday, March 25th at 12:00 (Noon) at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Assumption, with Fr. Michael Dandurand presiding. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Church or School.
