Bernard C. Marvin, age 88, lifelong resident of Metamora, Ohio, passed away Saturday evening, December 30, 2023 at Flower Hospital, surrounded by his family. Bernard was born April 27, 1935 in Metamora, Ohio to Francis and Valeria (Geiger) Marvin. He was a 1954 graduate of St. Mary's High School in Assumption, and married Theresa M. Gonnella on May 2, 1959.

Bernard was a cement mason and fifty-eight-year member of Local Union 886. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish in Assumption and the Catholic Order of Foresters. Bernard was passionate about running, and he joined the Toledo Road Runners Club in 1981 to participant in competitive events. His greatest accomplishments were coming in first place at Michigan International Speedway in a 10k foot race, qualifying to run the Boston Marathon in 1988, and he still holds the record time for the Susan B. Komen Race for the Cure in the 70 and over age group. He also participated with his son, Walt, in Ragbrai - the oldest, largest and longest multi-day cycling event in the world, as well as the Colorado Ride the Rockies, which included over 450 grueling miles and climbing one or two mountain passes each day.

Bernard is survived by his wife of 64 years, Theresa; children, Paula (Orrin) Whitcomb, Elizabeth (Scott) Sabul, Walter (Rose) Marvin, Michael (Debra) Marvin, Jacqueline Schaffner, Bernard (Danielle) Marvin, Theresa Parsons, and Victor (Tina) Marvin; twenty grandchildren; Jeremy Whitcomb, Jason (Kelli) Whitcomb, Jacob (Jayla) Whitcomb, Josh (Carys) Whitcomb, Lauren (Jonathan) Puckett, Stephen Snyder, Christopher (Meghan) Marvin, Skyla Marvin, Jake Marvin, Carol (Jeffrey) Sharp, Danielle (Nick) Smallman, Zach Schaffner, Nate (Mariah) Schaffner, Kirsten (Michael) Dewberry, Dallas Gedert, Sydnee Marvin, Jackson Parsons, Hayden Parsons, Emily Marvin, and Haley Marvin, and fourteen great-grandchildren; siblings, Nelson (Dorothy) Marvin, Ken (Mary) Marvin, Mary Ann Szabo, Carolyn (Ron) McKelvey, Irene Nichols, Geraldine (Larry) Finney and Joan (Emory) Fraley; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Bernard was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Robert and Francis Marvin, and sisters, Rose Anne Meiring and Betty Jean Marvin.

Visitation will be held Friday, January 5th from 3 to 7 pm at the Weigel Funeral Home in Metamora.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, January 6th at 11:00 am at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Assumption, with Fr. Walter Tuscano presiding.

Memorial Contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Catholic Church or Fulton County Special Olympics.
