Betty Ann (Schwyn) Fetterman

August 1, 1941 — June 7, 2022

Betty passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 7th, 2022 surrounded by her family. She was born on August 1st, 1941 on the family farm in Swanton, Ohio to Edward and Ruby (Dodge) Schwyn. On October 20th, 1962, she married Dale Wayne Fetterman and they had four children: Elizabeth, Londa, Mitchel, and Matt.

In 1959, she graduated from Fulton High School in Ai. Betty fondly recalled sporting events, cheerleading, class trips, and lifelong friendships from school, which she maintained through attending the Fulton Ai Alumni banquets. Her love for sports was shared with her children and grandchildren and she enthusiastically attended their events. Betty was a lifetime member of Lytton Zion UCC where she was baptized, confirmed, taught Sunday School, helped at the Fulton County Fair booth, and visited people for many years. She also played a role in getting a World War II Doughboy Statue restored, which stands in Swanton Memorial Park to honor those that served and died in the war.

She enjoyed working for Murphy’s Ben Franklin Store in Swanton and most recently the Oak Openings Turnpike Service Plaza gift shop, where they nicknamed her “Sunshine.” Betty was known at work for bringing in flowers from her garden. Creating friendships and meeting interesting people made her work intriguing. Additionally, she was very proud of her Swiss heritage, which she was able to explore further during her tour of Europe with family. She shared this interest with her cousins and they often traded stories. Betty’s home was filled with special memories; some of these included: Sunday dinners, baking cookies and pies for holidays, and her most treasured tradition of sending and receiving Christmas cards.

Betty will be greatly missed by her loving and devoted companion, Richard Runser. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dale; son, Mitchel. Left to cherish her memory and continue her legacy of love are her children: Elizabeth (Bill) Lumbrezer, Londa (Paul) Ommert, Matt (Sandra) Fetterman. Grandchildren: Bethann (John) Simon, Alaura (Ty) Peters, Chase Fetterman, Faith Fetterman, Olivia Ommert, and Brett Ommert. Great grandchildren: Dawson Peters, Luke Simon, and Trey Simon. Brother: Robert Schwyn. Brother-in-law: Roger Fetterman and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank mom’s doctors, caregivers, and recently the staff at Toledo Hospital and Ebeid Hospice. Each person that contributed to her care and supported us to keep mom at home will always hold a special place in our hearts.

Visitation will be held Monday, June 13th from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Weigel Funeral Home, 204 Chestnut St., Swanton, Ohio. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, June 14th at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor William Dunifon officiating. Interment will follow at Fulton Union Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Lytton Zion United Church of Christ, Arbor Day Foundation or Ebeid Hospice in Betty's memory.
