Betty L. Sumner

Betty L. Sumner, age 79, of Swanton, Ohio, beloved wife, mom, grandma and great-grandma, passed away Thursday, March 22, 2018 at St. Luke's Hospital in Maumee.  Betty was born December 26, 1938 in Floyd County, Kentucky to Golda Mae (Hicks) and Aaron Shepherd.  She married her loving husband, Clarence "Bud" Sumner on September 4, 1973. 

Betty worked at the Pilliod Cabinet Company for 23 years up until it closed.  She and Bud loved camping and traveling to Blue Grass Festivals.  She enjoyed crocheting, was an avid flower gardener and bird watcher.  She also loved listening to Blue Grass Gospel music and spending time with her family.

She will be greatly missed by her husband of 44 years, Bud; children, Linda "Lyn" (Rick) Gamber, Robert Straw, Lenette "Sami" (Jim) O'Brien, Kandy (Ron) Warner, Linda Wheating, Kenneth "Ken" (Gina) Sumner, Mary (Jim) Stickles, and Lee Ann Rayoum (Charlie Beard); , and Lisa (Rick) Kirk; and Dawna (Scott) Tanner.  She was blessed with a total of 66 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; son, Alvin Straw, daughter, Karen Straw; son-in-law, Bill Sandifer; daughter-in-law, Robin Straw; sister, Loretta Harris; granddaugter, Deanna Rayoum; and step-granddaughter, Vanessa Gamber.

The family will receive friends on Monday, March 26th from 2 to 8 p.m. at Weigel Funeral Home, 204 Chestnut Street, Swanton (419.826.2631). Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 27th at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home, with Pastor George Shaver officiating. Interment will follow at Swanton Cemetery.
