Bettye Vondale Fogle

October 6, 1922 — August 14, 2017

Bettye Vondale Fogle, age 94, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away peacefully with her family at her side, Monday evening, August 14, 2017, at Parkcliffe Community in Toledo. She was born October 6, 1922, in Lima, Ohio, to Frederick and Grace (Spees) Smith. She was a graduate of Schauffler College of Religious and Social Work in Cleveland, Ohio.

On August 8, 1948, Bettye married Rev. Cecil F. Fogle. She was his full-fledged partner in life and in ministry, including working as church secretary, singing in the choir, preparing and serving meals for High 12 and the East Toledo Club, and serving on numerous church boards and committees, primarily at Euclid United Methodist Church, where they served together for 20 years. Later in life Bettye moved to Swanton, where she was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church.

Over many years Bettye was active in work at Friendly Center, the Flower Hospital Guild, and Mountain Mentors, and she served on the boards of each of these organizations. She was also a life-time member of United Methodist Women (WSCS). These are just a few of the ways she fulfilled her life-long commitment to serving Christ.

Bettye is survived by daughters, Jacquie (Fred) Tito of Maumee, Ohio, Marcia (Phil) Klunk of Toledo, Ohio, and Sheila (Ken) Gruenhagen of Wauseon, Ohio; grandchildren, John (Leeann) Tito, Jennifer (Jim) Forshey, Isaac Klunk, Stephen Klunk, Emily (Kirk) DeCapite, Caitlin (Craig) Roth, and Kelsey Gruenhagen; great-grandchildren, Abby and Ellie Tito, Sophia and Owen Forshey, Kirk (III) and Hannah DeCapite, and Rowan Roth, and dear nieces and nephews.

Bettye was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 33 years, Rev. Cecil Fogle, by her parents, and by her sister and brother-in-law, Gaye and Chalmer Holliday.

Bettye’s family wishes to extend its sincere gratitude to the caregivers of Parkcliffe Community and Hospice of Northwest Ohio who provided “Miss Bettye” with exceptional care and love.
