Caroline Avina

Caroline Avina, age 86, of Swanton, Ohio, entered into eternal life, Friday afternoon, July 3, 2015 at Swanton Health Care and Retirement Center. She was born August 29, 1928 in Fulton County to Emanual and Dora (Galbraith) Gomer. Caroline married Raymond Avina on November 9, 1946 at St. Caspar Catholic Church in Wauseon, Ohio. He preceded her in death on February 21, 2008.

Caroline worked 30 years for the Evergreen School District as Cafeteria Manager, retiring in 1984. She and her husband enjoyed spending time at their cabin in the woods which Ray built in Angola, Indiana. They enjoyed fishing, camping and spending winters in Texas and Florida. They were fortunate to travel throughout the United States and Canada. When she wasn't traveling, Caroline loved working in her flower and vegetable gardening and tending to her fruit trees. She also enjoyed freezing and canning what she had grown.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Sandra (Ted) Georgoff, Suzanne K. Avina, and Steve (Nancy) Avina; grandchildren, Steve (Julie), Laurie (Dan), Scott (Cathy), Jesse, and Marne (Brad); great-grandchildren, Morgan, Brett, Brooke, Jacob, Madison, Alec, Persephone, and Cora; and sister, Kathryn (Santo) Giardina.

Preceding her in death besides her husband, Ray, are her parents; and siblings, Manuel Gomer, Robert Gomer, and Helen Weber.

Family and friends may visit Wednesday, July 8th from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Swanton (419.826.2631), where a Vigil Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue Thursday, July 9th from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Assumption, where a Mass of Resurrection will be held at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Michael Dandurand presiding. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Trinity School.

Mass of Resurrection: Thursday, July 9th at 11:00 am at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Assumption
