Cheryl Sue Schmidt

Cheryl Sue Schmidt, age 71, of Perrysburg, Ohio; formerly of Swanton, passed away peacefully in her home, Sunday morning, July 31, 2022, with her loving family at her bedside. Cheryl was born April 24, 1951 in Kokomo, Indiana to William and Doris (Self) Ashenfelter. She was a 1969 graduate of Swanton High School and earned her Bachelors Degree from Bowling Green State University. Cheryl married Joseph Schmidt on February 12, 1971. She taught home economics for three years, and subsequently devoted her time to raising her daughters. In 2006, Cheryl took over ownership of Taste of Toledo, an enterprise which brought her great joy.

A devout Christian with a strong faith, Cheryl was a member of Zoar Lutheran Church in Perrysburg. She enjoyed painting, ballroom dancing and cruising in the Caribbean and Alaska with family members.

Cheryl will be greatly missed by her beloved husband of 51 years, Joe; daughters, Erica (Eric) DeVries, Elissa Schmidt and Kaleena (John) Burleson; 3 grandchildren whom she adored, Ethan and Ella DeVries and Felicity Burleson; her brother, Gary (Connie) Ashenfelter; sisters, Sally Rutledge, Joyce Martenies and Kim Ashenfelter; her dear friend, Charlotte; and many wonderful brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

She has been reunited with her beloved grandmother, Viola Ashenfelter, in heaven. 

Visitation will be held Friday, August 5th from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Swanton.  Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 6th at 11:00 a.m. at Zoar Lutheran Church, 314 E. Indiana Ave, Perrysburg, OH 43551. Interment in the Memorial Garden at Zoar Lutheran Church will be held at a later date.
