David Jerome Newbury, who drove a bus for TARTA and retired in 1998, peacefully passed away at his residence in Metamora, Ohio on Thursday, June 08, 2023, with his loving wife of 64 years, Carol at his bedside.
Dave was born on January 27, 1935 in Toledo, Ohio to Elwyn and Ruth (Schumann) Newbury. Dave attended Libbey High School and went on to serve in the United States Army Reserve. He met his wife, Carol Ortman through Sue Newbury her best friend , and they were married May 9, 1959.
Dave's passion was flying. His passion for flying grew to such an extent that he even taught his children and grandchildren how to fly. He owned and maintained Newbury Airfield located at County Road T and County Road 7 in Lyons, Ohio. Dave loved taking anyone flying who was willing to go. He loved to build model aircraft and was a member of EAA, AOPA and Antique Aircraft Association.
When Dave wasn't flying, he could be seen driving around town in his Model A Ford with Carol at his side. He also loved traveling with Carol throughout the country to car conventions where they could share their love of cars with others. Dave was a member of Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church in Metamora for many years.
He leaves behind his loving wife Carol with whom he spent 64 blessed years of marriage together. Dave is also survived by his daughter Sandra Liberty (Eric), Sons Dan (Barb) and Don (Deanna); grandchildren Lance (Alicia), Casey (Justin), Jordan(Courtney) and Jacob (Sara); great-grandchildren Owen, Clark, and Collin.
Visitation will be Monday, June 12th from 3 to 7 pm at the Weigel Funeral Home in Metamora. Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 13th at 11:00 am, with Pastor Bruce Perry officiating. Interment will follow at Amboy Township Cemetery.
