David Albert Timm, Sr.

July 26, 1968 — November 18, 2024

Grand Rapids, Ohio

David Albert Timm Sr returned home peacefully to God Almighty early Monday morning, November 18, 2024, with his beloved family at his side.

David was born in Toledo, Ohio on July 26, 1968, the first-born child of Albert and Christine Timm. David and his family remained in Waterville, Ohio his entire childhood, only moving once to permanently reside on Karis St. He attended Anthony Wayne High School as well as Penta County Career Center where he graduated in 1986 with a focus in autobody. David had many jobs during his life including auto body technician, welder, solar panel engineer, and the maintenance man for the Cherry Street Mission, though his career was cut short by various accidents, injuries, and sicknesses forcing him to retire after over 30 years in the labor force.

On July 15, 2000, he married Mary Therese (Therese) Search (now divorced) and moved to Maumee, OH to start their family. Their first pregnancy, Charles, was stillborn causing a lot of pain for the young couple. However, they subsequently raised their three boys David Jr, Joshua, and Joseph. David was known to all he came across as one of the kindest, most compassionate, and generous people they ever met. His fatal flaw was that he could never say “no” to those in need even if it cost him in the process. He was a noble and just patriarch to his family and a hero to his children. He took the greatest pride in his role as a father, which even the state of Ohio recognized, as he was awarded full custody of his children after a divorce from his wife.

David wore many hats during his life: leader, problem solver, amateur stand-up comic, Star Trek geek, cook, storyteller, movie expert, but the greatest of these was dad, his greatest purpose that he succeeded in fulfilling. In his last few decades of his life, David suffered three car accidents, a five-month coma, three strokes, acute kidney failure, and a number of other illnesses and diseases. However, none of these things ever once caused him to stray from his role as a father nor tamp down his large personality and even larger sense of humor.

David was a man of strong faith and a symbol of strength and humility to his children and family, a true embodiment of the example of St. Joseph.

David is survived by his ex-wife Therese Timm, his father Albert Timm, and his brother Mark (Jennifer) Timm. His legacy and example is carried on by his children David Timm Jr, Joshua Timm, and Joseph Timm as well as all of his nieces and nephews. He will be dearly missed by his dog, Luigi. He is preceded in death by his son Charles Timm and his mother Christine Timm. He will live on forever in the hearts and minds of us all as a shining example of what it means to be a man, a father, and a faithful servant of Christ to all that he knew.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 26th from 11 am to 12 pm at St. Richards Catholic Church, where a service for David will begin at 12:00 (Noon), with Fr. Eric Culler presiding.
