Donna Gene Borland

February 14, 1924 — October 30, 2016

Donna Gene (Kisseberth) Borland, 92, of Lyons OH., died October 30, 2016, at home.

She was born February 14, 1924 in a campground near the San Diego Zoo to Rollie and Nellie (Diemer) Kisseberth.

Donna’s philosophy was “Make your life full from beginning to end-DO THINGS!” And she did.

Her sense of adventure was shown through her travels across the states many times (visiting all 50 states), Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Europe. On a trip to Brueberg, Germany she visited the Kisseberth Castle.

She taught her children and grandchildren the joy of learning about nature, the beauty of the land, the challenge of exploring-encouraging them to try new things and the importance of family.

Family and friends were always included on her trips; at holidays the house would be filled with love, laughter, great food and games that all enjoyed; the family reunion was always held at their pond with lots of food, friends, swimming and games; and each month when there was a full moon, people were invited to share in the family moonwalk through the woods. Music was a part of her life and lovingly provided by friends Jerry Eicher, Brenda Holdridge, Tom Silveous and the Galbraith family.

Donna was an active member and past officer of the Lyons VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed helping with fund raisers, at dinners, and marching in parades.

She was proud of the fact that she climbed the Half Dome and went to the bottom of the Grand Canyon more than once. She took her kids and grandkids to President Johnsons’s funeral. At 89 she drove alone cross country to visit her daughter in CA. Donna was determined and did not let things stop her from achieving her goals.

Donna had been a forklift operator at Peters Stamping Fayette, OH and she drove school bus for Lyons and Evergreen school districts for 35 years retiring in June 1995.

Donna is survived by four daughters: Linda (Steve) Boger of Lyons OH; Judy (Tom) Trumper of Fort Bragg CA; Barb (Augie) Steiner-Zehender of Morenci MI; and Diane (Ralph) Seidel of Lyons OH; son-in-law, John Lakatos; 18 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Nancy Cole (Bob Kontz) of Toledo OH; and many nieces and nephews.

Donna was preceded in death by her husband John (married 68 years), sons Johnny, Bobby, and Roger; daughter, Sharon Lakatos; her parents; a grandson, David; and one sister, Rita (Tom) Pompili.

Visitation will be held Thursday, November 3rd from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Metamora, Ohio (419.644.3601). Funeral services will be held Friday, November 4th at 11:00 a.m. at Christ the Word Church (3100 Murd Road Sylvania) with Pastor David Bayly officiating. Interment will follow at the Lyons Cemetery in Lyons Ohio. There will be a celebration of Donna’s life after the interment at the Lyons VFW Hall.
