Doris Ann Kurivial, age 92, of Swanton, Ohio, departed this world peacefully in her home Tuesday evening, April 29, 2025. Doris was born on June 23, 1932 to Louis and Doris (Wagner) Vavrik, and was raised in the city of Rossford, Ohio. She married John Joseph Kurivial on November 12, 1955. They cultivated a life together in Swanton on his family farm, raising five children. Doris was a member of St. Richard Catholic Parish in Swanton.

A proud graduate of Whitney Vocational High School, Doris embraced her culinary education, honing her skills in the kitchen that would serve her well throughout her life. Her talents in baking were not simply a hobby but a calling that led her to own and operate a delightful cake and wedding supply store in Delta for several years, where numerous couples embarked on their journey of love with her creations gracing their celebrations.

Doris was not only an accomplished baker; she was also a spirited competitor. Always striving for excellence, she worked tirelessly to qualify for the esteemed Pillsbury Bake Off, achieving finalist status in 1972, a milestone that took her to Houston, Texas. Her culinary creations were celebrated by many, reflecting her dedication to the art of baking and the joy it brought to those around her.

Doris is survived by her loving children: Leslie (Tom) Young, Ann (Donald) Smith, John C. (Susan) Kurivial, Mary (Jamal) Fakih, and Steven (Tryphena) Kurivial. She leaves behind a legacy enriched by ten grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren, all of whom carry forward her spirit and the warmth she imparted to those around her. Doris is also survived by her siblings, Milan (Louise) Vavrik, Patricia (William) Karcsak, and Emily Brower, as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of sixty years, John, her parents, Louis and Doris Vavrik, as well as her sister, Henrietta (Edward) Kleinfelter, and her brother, Leonard Vavrik.

Private graveside services will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery in Assumption, with Fr. Eric Culler presiding.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
