Dorothy D. Taft

Dorothy Taft, age 98, lifelong resident of Swanton, Ohio, passed away peacefully with her family at her bedside, Friday evening, September 29, 2017 at Swanton Valley Care. She was born August 31, 1919 in Swanton to the late Ernest and Inez (Richardson) Meyer. She married Clarence Taft on December 16, 1938 and he preceded her in death on May 11, 2003.

Dorothy was a homemaker raising eight children. She worked the board of elections for 69 years, was a life member of the Swanton American Legions Ladies Auxiliary and member of the Royal Neighbors Lodge in Neapolis.

Dorothy loved crocheting, playing Bingo, square dancing and flower gardening.

Dorothy will be missed by her children, Calvin (Frances) Taft, Clarence (Paula) Taft, Carl Taft, Charles (Cathy) Taft, Richard (Carol) Showman, Phyllis (Edward) Ray and Virginia (Don) Wise; close family friend, Rose Balusik; 22 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; as well as her 2 sisters, Betty Dennis and Mae Kelly.

Besides her husband, Clarence and her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her daughter, Inez Louise Taft; daughter-in-law, Donna Taft; granddaughters, Angel Mary Wise and Kelly Lynn Taft; great-great-grandson, Tynan Wise; 4 brothers and 3 sisters.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 4th from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Swanton. Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 5th at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home with Rev. Donna Stutzman officiating. Interment will follow at East Swanton Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Swanton American Legion, American Cancer Society or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.

Funeral Services: Thursday, October 5th at 11:00 am in the Funeral Home

Interment: East Swanton Cemetery
