Evelyn M. Babcock

Evelyn M. Babcock, age 93, of Swanton, Ohio passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday morning, January 14, 2022. Evelyn was born July 13, 1928, in Toledo to Eugene and Eva (Spencer) Burchell. She married her high school sweetheart, Harmon E. Babcock, on April 16, 1947.

Evelyn was a longtime member of Fulton Union Church, Ladies Elks and Swanton American Legion Auxiliary. Evelyn was full of life and spunk. She loved the outdoors, taking great pride in her gardening skills. Evelyn also loved to watch her family and people in the neighborhood enjoy her beautiful pool on hot summer days. She was known as “Grandma” throughout the community. Around Halloween everyone would get so excited for her famous Popcorn Balls. Evelyn was a woman of many talents, from an excellent baker to creating beautiful center pieces. She could do it all. Her most enjoyable moments were the ones spent with her family.

Left to cherish Evelyn’s memory are her children; Lynn (Danny) Atanacio, (Aaron) Barb Babcock, Joel (Jana) Babcock, Jamie (Michelle) Babcock and Ann (Joe) Gombash; sister, Dawn “Penny” Nichols; grandchildren, Rene Atanacio-Adler, Erik (Candee) Babcock, Jeremy (Melissa) Babcock, Aaron “Aber” (Heather) Babcock, Parris (Tom) Killen, Brooks Babcock, Teigan Babcock, Harmon (Anna) Gombash, Harlan Babcock, Haiden Gombash; 10 great-grandchildren and one on the way; 5 great-great-grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 4 step-great-grandchildren; 2 step-great-great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Harmon on July 15, 1991; her son, Aaron Babcock; 7 brothers and 3 sisters.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 19th from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Swanton. Services will be held Thursday, January 20th at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Alan Weese officiating. Interment will follow at Sharples Cemetery.
