F. Henry VanDenBerghe

F. Henry VanDenBerghe, age 81, of Metamora, Ohio, entered into eternal life, and was reunited with the love of his life, Marie, Monday morning, April 30, 2018, at Sunset Village in Sylvania.  He was born September 20, 1936 in Ninove, Belgium to Alice (Vermeulen) and Arthur VanDenBerghe.  Henry immigrated to the United States on January 4, 1948.  He was drafted into the U.S. Army and served four years.  On October 21, 1961, he married Marie Louise VandeWalle.  She preceded him in death twelve years ago to the day, April 30, 2006.

Henry worked as a bricklayer and was a member of Local 3 Bricklayers Union for over 50 years.  He retired from Spartan Construction. He also farmed for many years and was a partner in Flanders Rental Apartments.  Henry was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish in Assumption.

Henry is survived by his daughters, Simonne (Keith) Mildenstein, Lisa (Michael) Barnes, and Diane (Wayne) Cundick; several grandchildren; brothers, Peter (Sharon) VanDenBerghe, George (Rochelle) VanDenBerghe and Lawrence VanDenBerghe, several nieces and nephews; as well and many friends.

Besides his beloved wife of 44 years, Marie, Henry was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Kathleen; granddaughter, Lauren Taylor; sisters, Rita Creps, Georgette Kniss and Goldie Eggers and brother, Albert VanDenBerghe.

Family and friends may visit Thursday, May 3rd from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Metamora, where a Vigil Service will be held at 7:30 p.m.  Prayers will begin in the funeral home on Friday, May 4th at 10:30 a.m., and follow with a Mass of Resurrection at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Assumption.  Fr. Michael Dandurand will preside.  Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
