Frederick “Fred” Tredway, age 97, lifelong farmer and resident of Lyons, Ohio, passed away peacefully in his home on Father’s Day, surrounded by his loving family, Sunday afternoon, June 19, 2022. Fred was born January 11, 1925 in Lyons to Harry and Beulah (Fetterman) Tredway. Following graduation, Fred joined the United States Navy and was a World War II Veteran.
Fred was a 72 year member of the Masons of Ohio-Wauseon Lodge #349 and served as Past Master. He was a member of the Scottish Rite, Order of Eastern Star, and the Wauseon American Legion Post #265.
After 25 years of farming, Fred fulfilled his dream of owning and raising draft horses – Percherons as a hobby. He showed them at county fairs and drove them in parades. Another fond hobby of his was caning chairs.
Fred married his first wife, Marcella Fruchey in Lyons in 1946. They had three children; Michael (Elizabeth) Tredway, Molly (Jack) Lugbill and Matthew (Evelyn) Tredway; 8 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren.
Fred is also survived by his second wife, Beatrice “Bea” whom he married in 1970. Also survived by his stepdaughter Linda (Joe) Miller and stepson, William (Bobbie) Simpkins; 4 step-grandchildren; 5 step-great-grandchildren; brother, Horace (Liz) Tredway; sister, Elizabeth Rowland; and many nieces and nephews.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents; son, Michael Tredway; son-in law Jack Graf and brother-in-law, Elvin Rowland.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 22nd from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Metamora, where a Masonic Service will be held at 6:45 pm. Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 23rd at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home, with Pastor Heather Schimmel officiating. Interment, with Military Rites, will follow at Amboy Township Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Lyons Fire Department, Lyons Christian Church or Wauseon Masonic Lodge, # 349.
