George Charles Ray, age 80, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2025. He was born August 31, 1944 in Toledo, Ohio.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Catherine and his three sons, John (Melanie), George, and Joseph (Wendy). He is also survived by his four grandchildren, Brittani (Tim), Kelsey (Cameron), Ashley, and Kyle (Sarah). George had five great-grandchildren, Paisley, Holden, Ellie, Norah, and Casey who all brought him tremendous Joy.
George was a friend to many and enjoyed lasting friendships that persevered time and distance and was still attending a monthly luncheon with members of his 1958 8th grade graduating class from Nativity Catholic School.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Leona; sister, Elaine, and Milo and Carrie Ray, who raised George and his sister from a young age.
George had many professions throughout his life including many years as a quality control manager and as an independent Mac tools distributor. The profession that he enjoyed the most was as a charter bus driver where he was able to take the University of Toledo and Bowling Green football teams and other local colleges to their games.
George was a proud Marine Corps veteran and was a member of the Lou Diamond Detachment of the Marine Corps League, he was also a member of the American Legion.
He had a number of hobbies that he enjoyed, those included coaching his son’s football and basketball teams. He loved working on cars and could fix anything under the hood, he was a founding member of the Glass City Corvette Club. He was a lifetime member of Riverview Yacht Club where he enjoyed boating and shooting pool. He was an avid football fan having been a Toledo football season ticket holder for many years. He also cheered on The Ohio State Buckeyes, and for some reason, the Cleveland Browns.
Services will be held on Saturday June 7, 2025 with Visitation at 11:30 a.m. followed by a Memorial Mass beginning at 12:30 p.m. with a luncheon to follow at St Richard Catholic Church, 333 Brookside Dr. Swanton, OH 43558
