Geraldine Ann “Geri” Durholt, age 85, of Delta, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 2, 2025 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio surrounded by her loving family. She was born on February 28, 1940, to Casper and Florence (Nawrocki) Kaminski in Toledo, Ohio. She grew up in Toledo, Ohio, and graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1958. After graduation, Geri entered the order of Sisters of St. Francis to become a sister of Christ. After one year, she decided to leave the convent to serve God in a different way. Throughout her life, her faith continued to be her guiding principle. She spread God’s love with her generous and caring spirit and served Him in many ways, including leading marriage retreats with her husband and counseling newlywed couples at her parish St. Richards Catholic Church, Swanton, OH.
Geri married Lawrence Durholt on May 11, 1968, at St. Hyacinth Parish in Toledo. After many years being a homemaker and raising her two children, she worked as a teacher’s assistant for special behavioral needs middle-school students. Most of her 25-year career was spent in Evergreen Middle School in Metamora, Ohio. It was a testament to her loyalty, hard work, and caring spirit that she spent all the years working alongside the same teacher, Jan Grieser.
Geri loved her home in Delta, where she and Larry lived for almost 50 years. It was there that she hosted many gatherings, greeting extended family and friends with open arms and a loving heart. She treasured her role as beloved aunt and great-aunt to many nieces and nephews. Geri had a love of music, especially scores from old musicals, watching Golf tournaments and admiring ocean views. Her greatest passion was the love she had for her family, most importantly her grandchildren, who were the light of her life and meant the world to her. Geri spent much of the last 22 years visiting and helping to care for them in Virginia Beach, VA.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Joseph Rutherford, and her godson, Jim Rutherford. Geri’s smile, spirit, and caring nature will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her, especially her loving husband of almost 57 years, Lawrence “Larry” Durholt; daughter, Charlene (Matt) Brehl; son, Todd (Kate) Durholt; grandchildren, Christopher, Sarah, and Samantha Brehl; sisters, Cece Rutherford and Judy Duszynski; cousin, Clarice (Larry) Goodheart; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive guests on Friday, May 9th from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at Weigel Funeral Home, Swanton and again on Saturday, May 10th from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at St. Richard Catholic Church, 333 Brookside Dr. where a Funeral Mass will begin at 11:00 a.m. in church.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider St. Richard Catholic Church or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
