Helen J. Kashmer

Helen J. Kashmer, age 87, formerly of Berkey, Ohio, passed away peacefully early Tuesday morning, July 10, 2018, surrounded by her loving family, at Lakes of Sylvania.  She was born January 2, 1931 in Toledo, Ohio to August and Helen (Szalay) Fehser, being their only child.  She married her husband, John Kashmer on November 7, 1953, and he preceded her in death on April 3, 1997 after 44 years of marriage.

Her favorite past times included cooking for her entire family, especially her Hungarian dinners and pastries, that she learned from her mother.  Helen also loved spending time with her family, playing cards with her sons, and playing backgammon with her daughter.  She also enjoyed working word search puzzles.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Jerry Kashmer of Swanton, OH, and Terry (Sandra) Kashmer of Berkey, OH; daughter, Cynthia (Richard) Johnston of Swanton, OH; 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and a great-great grandson due in September.                                             

Besides her husband, John, Helen was preceded in death by her parents, and daughter-in-law, Bonnie Kashmer.

Family and friends may visit Thursday, July 12th from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home, 413 E. Main St. in Metamora (419.644.3601).  Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 13th in the funeral home with Pastor Derrick Torrey officiating. Interment will follow at St. Elizabeth Cemetery.
