Herminia "Minnie" Ramirez

December 6, 1925 — January 12, 2017

God called his faithful servant Herminia “Minnie” Ramirez home on Thursday January 12, 2017 surrounded by family and friends. Minnie was a devout Catholic and disciple of Jesus Christ. Her passion for life was family, helping others, and sharing the goodness of the Lord.

Minnie lived a very active life of 91 years. She enjoyed baking, cooking for others, sewing, knitting, crocheting, traveling, watching sports and participating in church activities. She was known for her fabulous pies and cookies. Minnie devoted much of her time to charity work making blankets, hats and rosaries for anyone in need. She visited nursing homes and helped feed the less fortunate once a month. Her love of sports took her to Spain for the Olympics in 1992 and to many sport fields both near and across the country. She cheered for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren at soccer, football and baseball games, wrestling, cheer competition and recently attended her first lacrosse match. Minnie was a true Buckeye football fan for many years.

Minnie met Paul, her husband of 70 years when they were young children in Texas. They moved to Swanton after their marriage and have lived there since 1948 becoming active members of St. Richard Catholic Church. Minnie and Paul raised their eight children in Swanton. After raising their children they opened up their home to 16 exchange students from Mexico and Spain.

After working at St. Vincent’s hospital for many years she retired in 1987.

Minnie was preceded in death by her mother, father, two sisters and one brother. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Paul and children Sue Fair of Sarasota, FL, Gloria Ramirez, Laredo, TX, Paul (Cindy) Ramirez Jr. of Temperance, MI, Jane (Mel) Overholser of Oregon, OH, Janette Manuel of Applegate, CA, Deb (Frank) Pokornik of Perrysburg, OH, Mike Ramirez of Slippery Rock, PA and Jim (Monica) Ramirez of Towson, MD. Also surviving are twelve grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Family and friends may visit Monday, January 16th from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home, 204 Chestnut St. in Swanton (419.826.2631), where the Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Prayers will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 17th in the funeral home and will follow with a Mass of Resurrection at 11:00 a.m. at St. Richard Catholic Church, with Father Adam Hertzfeld presiding and Deacon Jerry Ziemkiewicz assisting. Interment will follow at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Minnie’s honor may be gifted to St Richard Parish’s building fund, 333 Brookside Dr., Swanton, OH 43558 or the American Cancer Society.
