Herminia "Minnie" Ramirez
God called his faithful servant Herminia “Minnie” Ramirez home on Thursday January 12, 2017 surrounded by family and friends. Minnie was a devout Catholic and disciple of Jesus Christ. Her passion for life was family, helping others, and sharing the goodness of the Lord.
Minnie lived a very active life of 91 years. She enjoyed baking, cooking for others, sewing, knitting, crocheting, traveling, watching sports and participating in church activities. She was known for her fabulous pies and cookies. Minnie devoted much of her time to charity work making blankets, hats and rosaries for anyone in need. She visited nursing homes and helped feed the less fortunate once a month. Her love of sports took her to Spain for the Olympics in 1992 and to many sport fields both near and across the country. She cheered for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren at soccer, football and baseball games, wrestling, cheer competition and recently attended her first lacrosse match. Minnie was a true Buckeye football fan for many years.
Minnie met Paul, her husband of 70 years when they were young children in Texas. They moved to Swanton after their marriage and have lived there since 1948 becoming active members of St. Richard Catholic Church. Minnie and Paul raised their eight children in Swanton. After raising their children they opened up their home to 16 exchange students from Mexico and Spain.
After working at St. Vincent’s hospital for many years she retired in 1987.
Minnie was preceded in death by her mother, father, two sisters and one brother. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Paul and children Sue Fair of Sarasota, FL, Gloria Ramirez, Laredo, TX, Paul (Cindy) Ramirez Jr. of Temperance, MI, Jane (Mel) Overholser of Oregon, OH, Janette Manuel of Applegate, CA, Deb (Frank) Pokornik of Perrysburg, OH, Mike Ramirez of Slippery Rock, PA and Jim (Monica) Ramirez of Towson, MD. Also surviving are twelve grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Family and friends may visit Monday, January 16th from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home, 204 Chestnut St. in Swanton (419.826.2631), where the Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Prayers will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 17th in the funeral home and will follow with a Mass of Resurrection at 11:00 a.m. at St. Richard Catholic Church, with Father Adam Hertzfeld presiding and Deacon Jerry Ziemkiewicz assisting. Interment will follow at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Minnie’s honor may be gifted to St Richard Parish’s building fund, 333 Brookside Dr., Swanton, OH 43558 or the American Cancer Society.

I share what I wrote for Minnie ... Here we are Betty and Gerard with great sympathy along our American Family for the sensitive loss of a very special person. Who from being an exchange student in 1981 became my step mother, and always made me feel like a son of her own, that is why we met and we saw each other until today that we said goodbye to meet later at God's disposal. My American Family and Mexican roots that we love very much, are those people that you know and mark your life forever. Minne as we call her everyone, on January 12th at the age of 91 years ceased to exist in this life to continue living otherwise among us but before the presence of God our Lord, who surrounds himself with good people of great heart as hers. Today she reports on what will be her eternal home with a very large and heavy luggage loaded with good works. Her heart was certainly of a conventional size but her love and spirit of servicing others had no measure and no distinction and her goodness had no boundaries as it reached to have 16 exchange students, her adopted children, who were touched by her love. Her favorite exercise was serving others by starting with her own, continuing with the neighbors, her beloved community in Swanton, Ohio, and her exchange students all Mexican and a one from Spain who we always felt present in her prayers. Solidar Misionare because she always helped us to fulfill where we had to serve in Mexican communities along in spirit and with unique donations thru us Rest in peace Minnie, a great person like no other I have known and God bless us with more people like her to come to us and touch our lives as she lovely did.

Paul & Family, So very sorry to hear of Minnie's passing. She was a very sweet & kind lady whom I often saw @ weekly & Sunday Mass @ St. Richard's. There was such a kindness about her & her presence will be greatly missed. I was fortunate to be @ Mass when you both celebrated your 70th Wedding Anniversary and in awe of the love you and Minnie showed as well as your loving family's presence. May her strength, love and faith in God guide you all @ this most difficult time. She will be sadly missed. God Bless!

Sending prayers up to Our Heavenly Father for the Ramirez family. As a child attending St. Richard's with my family, I remember seeing your entire Ramirez family at church every Sunday and at all of the St. Richard school and church functions. What a blessing that Minnie and your family were a part of our St. Richard family. And now Minnie can claim her reward of eternal life with Our Father. God's peace and love be with you all.

My deepest condolences to Paul and all the Ramirez family. I'm deeply sorry for your loss. I got to know Minnie since I was a little girl and she became like a grandmother to me even though we didn't get to see too often. I admired her in so many ways, I thank God for giving me the chance of having her as a role model, as she"ll continue to be. All the family will be in my prayers. God bless!

I was sad to see that she had gone on, if we would have know that she lived we would have went to see her. I can't remeber when I didn't know her, she was so active in the club of Know your neighbor Extension Homemakers. I have often thought of her over the years. We have been gone from Ohio forover 20 years, but she was never forgotten. I am so glad she had shuch a good long life. I send this with love for always.
