Howard P. Greene, Sr

Howard P. Greene, Sr., 94, died Friday, May 22, 2015 at Promedica Ebeid Hospice Residence in Sylvania, Ohio. He is survived by his wife, Lois P. Greene of Metamora, OH; sons, H. Peter Greene, Jr. of Boyertown, PA, Robert Q. Greene of Cross Plains TN, and Stephen E. Greene of Bath, NY; daughters, Susan Morris of Reading, PA, Kathy Manning of Portland, OR, and Pamela Mohr of Metamora, OH; as well as many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Erma; daughters, Gloria Norton, Linda Varner, and Betsy Davenport, all of the Scranton, PA area.

Born June 8, 1920 in Clarks Summit PA to Leland and Kate Elizabeth (Ottinger) Greene, Howard attended the Luscombe School of Aeronautics, where he studied aircraft design, as well as airplane and engine mechanics. He worked for Luscombe during WWII and was involved in the design and production of the Luscombe 50, the first all-metal, mass produced light aircraft.

Howard was employed as an electrical engineer with C&D Batteries, Pennsburg, PA from 1960 until his retirement in 1976. He, his wife, and daughter, Pamela moved to Frostproof, FL on Christmas Eve 1976. They lived in Plant City, FL from 1979 to 1987, and in Lakeland FL from 1987 until 2014, when they moved to Metamora. He was in charge of maintenance at Plant City Towers Apartments from 1984 until retiring in 2000. Howard was a member of Bible Presbyterian Church in Lakeland.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 11, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Weigel Funeral Home, 413 E. Main St. in Metamora (419.644.3601).
