Interment with Military Rites: Swanton Cemetery ~ Centerville Road

Irving C. Young, age 96, of Swanton, Ohio, died peacefully surrounded by his family, Saturday afternoon, May 27, 2017, at Parkcliffe Assisted Living Community in Toledo. He was born January 25, 1921 in Ottawa Lake, Michigan to Claud E. and Dora (Mominee) Young. On June 28, 1941, he married his loving wife, Marcella DeCant. In January of 1944, Irving enlisted in the United States Navy. He proudly served his country during WWII aboard the USS Suffolk.

Irving was a life-long truck driver and talented woodworker. He worked from his shop located in the barn behind his home. He used his skills to make beautiful kitchen cabinets that were used in some of his children and grandchildren's homes. When he wasn't driving truck or working with wood, Irving and Marcella loved traveling in their motorhome and fishing in the U.S. and Canada. They also enjoyed spending the winters in Bushnell, Florida.

Left to cherish Irving's memory are his son, Jim (Linda) Young; daughter, Joyce (Tom) Shelley; 7 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; his sister, Florence Jones; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, and his wife of 70 years, Marcella, Irving was preceded in death by his daughter, Donna Franklin; grandson, Ty Shelley; and 9 brothers and sisters.

The family extends a special thank you to Heartland Hospice and the nurses and staff at Parkcliffe Community for their wonderful care and compassion towards Irving.

Family and friends may visit Tuesday, May 30th from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Swanton (419.826.2631). Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 31st at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home, with Pastor Tom Bates officiating. Interment, with Military Rites, will follow at Swanton Cemetery.
