James B. Keller, a gentle soul and devoted family man, passed away peacefully at home in his sleep, Friday morning November 22, 2024 at the age of 81. Jim was born April 13, 1943 in Toledo, Ohio, to the late Donald C. and Deloris Mabel (Brinkman) Keller. Jim's life was woven around his love for family and the community he cherished.
Jim was a 1961 graduate of Swanton High School. Known as a jack of all trades, he dedicated many years to working as a foreman at R&R Plastics and driving truck hauling concrete for Dielman. His industrious spirit and willing hands crafted a legacy of hard work and dedication, reflecting a life lived in service to others.
Jim married his beloved high school sweetheart, Melody K. Massie, on October 19, 1963. Melody, who preceded him in death on June 13, 2017, forever remained a cherished part of Jim's memory.
Jim was not simply defined by his work; he was a true craftsman at heart, indulging in woodworking and creating everything from intricately designed puzzles to grand kitchen cabinets. His workshop barn was a haven of creativity, where he would carve his dreams into reality. Melody often brought those dreams to life by lending her artistic touch, painting the pieces he created.
A devout Catholic, Jim found fulfillment in serving his parish and community, whether helping at church festivals, participating in the St. Vincent DePaul Society, or offering assistance during Mass. His unwavering faith guided him through life.
Jim's heart was most notably intertwined with the love he held for his family. Memories abound of vacations where laughter filled the air as he loaded his family and camping gear into the car, embarking on grand cross-country adventures. Family gatherings were a source of joy for Jim, where he would enthusiastically capture every beautiful moment with his camera, ensuring that the smiles and precious times spent together would never fade from memory. Jim enjoyed playing on the Mom & Pop bowling league, looked forward to Friday night euchre parties with friends, and holiday parties with family and friends.
The circle of Jim's life included his devoted children: Chris (Laura) Keller, Joe (Deb) Keller, Mike (Jeanette) Keller, Craig (Trish) Keller, and Dawn (Bill) Spillers. He took pride in being a grandfather to ten grandchildren and a great-grandfather to eight great-grandchildren, each one the light of his life. He is also survived by his sister, Joyce (Richard) Thompson and brother-in-law, Richard Bowser, along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Besides his beloved wife Melody and his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his sister, Janet Bowser, nieces, Lori Bowser-Euler and Sherri Bowser, and mother and father-in-law, Stella and Harold Massie.
