Joan Theresa Elton, a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully Sunday morning, June 22, 2025, at the University of Toledo Medical Center, with her loving family by her side. She was born on February 20, 1952, in Toledo, Ohio, to Harold and Flossie (Barth) Mossing.
Joanie’s career spanned many years working as a custodian, cook, and food server for the Anthony Wayne Local Schools, where she was known for her kind heart and unwavering dedication to the well-being of the students and staff. Her contributions were many, but it was her deep connection to family that truly defined her legacy.
Joanie was a 1970 graduate of Evergreen High School. On August 20, 1971, she married her beloved husband, Darryl Elton, with whom she shared a remarkable partnership for over 54 years. Joanie found immense joy in spoiling her dog Digby and her grandchildren, who brought her unending happiness. In her leisure time, Joanie loved to bake and cook for her family, filling their gatherings with delicious meals and treats that created lasting memories. Her family was her pride and joy, and she devoted herself to making their lives special.
She is survived by her husband, Darryl; son, Bill (Kelly) Elton; daughters, Kimberly (Brian) Kahl and Bridgett Auth; and her cherished grandchildren, Grace, Elizabeth and Zachary Elton, and Kaylee, Bryce, Cooper and Kelsey Kahl. Her legacy continues through the love and memories shared with them.
Joanie is also survived by her siblings, Robert (Nancy) Mossing, Judy (Lyle) Hite, Patricia Mossing, John (Jeanne) Mossing, Becky (Ronald) Ehrsam, Bernadette (Ken) Mierzwinski, Michael Mossing, sister-in-law, Janice Mossing, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Joanie is preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Flossie Mossing; her brothers, Mark Mossing and Joseph Mossing; her sister, Mary Ann Wymer; as well as her son-in-law, Mike Auth, and her mother and father-in-law, Marjorie and Floyd Elton, Jr.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 25th from 4 to 8 pm at the Weigel Funeral Home in Swanton. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, June 26th at 10:00 am in the funeral home, with Deacon Thomas Sheehan officiating. Interment will follow at East Swanton Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
