Josima “Susie” VandeSande, age 87, of Metamora, Ohio, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 6, 2009, surrounded by her loving family. She was born May 5, 1922 in Oostkamp, Belgium to Valentyn and Lydie (VanPeene) Steyaert. On June 6, 1946, she married Cyriel VandeSande. In 1950, they set out on their journey by ship to the United States, where they began operating their family farm. Susie also worked 13 years for Globe Weiss in Wauseon, while raising their two children.

Susie thoroughly enjoyed knitting, baking delicious homemade bread, as well as vegetable and flower gardening. She was a faithful member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish and member of its Altar & Rosary Society.

Susie was preceded in death by her husband, Cyriel; parents; brother George; and sisters Georgine and Agnes.

She is survived by her son, Jerry VandeSande of Metamora, OH; daughter, Marie (Mike) Bryan of Hillsdale, MI; grandchildren, Chad VandeSande, Amy (Ryan) Stasa, Adam (Brandy) VandeSande, and Robert (Christine) Bryan; great-grandchildren, Justin, Scott, Riley, MaKayla, Adam, Jr., Harley, Taylor, Alexis, Jolie, McKenna, Brennen, Tanner; and her sister, Gerarda.

Friends and family may visit Thursday, September 10th from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Metamora, where a Scripture service will be held at 7:30 p.m.

Prayers will begin Friday morning, September 11th at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Resurrection at Holy Trinity Catholic Church at Assumption at 11:00 a.m., with Fr. Ron Schock officiating. Interment will be follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Trinity or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.

The family would like thank Hospice for their kind and compassionate care.
