Joyce Louise Kohlhofer, a devoted mother, nana, sister and aunt, passed away peacefully at her home Wednesday morning, April 1, 2026, with her family by her side. Joyce was born on October 2, 1954, in Knoxville, Tennessee, to Milard (Jack) and Ruth (Peggy) Caldwell. Joyce lived a life rich in love, faith, and quiet devotion that touched the hearts of all who knew her.
On October 18, 1974, Joyce married her beloved husband, Frank Glen Kohlhofer Sr., a union she treasured deeply. Together they built a family grounded in love and respect. Frank preceded her in death on April 5, 2018.
A 1972 graduate of Otsego High School, Joyce’s journey was marked by both steadfast commitment and compassion. She worked diligently in housekeeping at St. Luke’s Hospital, where her work reflected not just a job but a caring spirit that extended to every corner she tended. Her dedication to others went beyond her career; she was a woman of deep faith who loved her Lord and Savior wholeheartedly. Joyce attended the Swanton Church of the Nazarene, her spiritual life was a cornerstone of her identity, providing strength and guidance throughout her years.
Joyce marveled in the simple pleasures in life—she loved watching hummingbirds and cardinals, finding peace and beauty in their delicate flight and vibrant colors. She also loved to garden, often obsessing over her Hyacinths and Roses. Joyce was passionate about her dogs, but nothing brought her more pleasure than spending time with her gandbabies.
Joyce’s family was her greatest joy and pride, especially those who called her Nana. She is lovingly remembered by her children: Frank G., Jr. (Leah) Kohlhofer, Steven U. Kohlhofer, Grace Kohlhofer, Joshua Kohlhofer, Linda (Tristan) Cousino, and Sarah Kohlhofer. Her legacy continues through sixteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren who brought light and laughter into her days. She is also survived her sister-in-law Karen Kohlhofer, brothers-in-law Kenneth (Cindy) Kohlhofer and Michael (Lisa) Kohlhofer, and a circle of nieces and nephews who adored her.
Besides her husband Frank, Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, and sister, Jackie Meyers.
