Kaylene (Gittus) George

d. July 13, 2022

Kaylene Gittus George, age 74, of Whitehouse, Ohio, passed away while enjoying vacation with family in Yellowstone, Wednesday July 13, 2022.  Kaylene was born March 28, 1948 in Tecumseh, Michigan and graduated from Deerfield High School.  She attended business school that brought her to Toledo, Ohio, where she worked at the Toledo Hospital.

In 1969, she met Allan George with a story that rivals the George Strait song “The Chair.”  They married in August 1970 in Toledo, Ohio.  Most of their marriage was spent in their dream home they built from the ground up.

Kaylene was very active with helping raise their two daughters, Shondel and Tamra.  The family traveled with a pop up camper, she coached softball and soccer, was a certified manicurist, and in-between all of that, she enjoyed going to Ohio State Football games and worked at Heartland Rehabilitative Services.

Kaylene was known as “Tootie” by her loved ones.  She had a laugh, with a huge smile, that caused her eyes to almost close, to the point she would rock back in her chair and about fall to the floor.  The contagious laugh would get all those around her rolling.

Kaylene continued to make memories with her grandkids, Shaelyn, Keiran, Brogan, and great-grandson Myles.  She enjoyed making sure they had all they ever needed.  When others said no she would grab their hand and say “lets go see what we can do.”  The grandkids love the memories of the numerous trips to Hilton Head they took with Papa and their “Mimi.”  Mimi’s strength and tough love came from a huge heart of desire to fight for the best in her family and friends.  Mimi’s huge heart allowed her to hold her best friends tight, bend over backwards for those in need, fly to Texas to help her daughter any time she needed, support her grandkids in all their activities, and ensure any family gathering had the right touches.  All with a taste that will never go out of style.

Kaylene was preceded in death by her dad, Leon Edward Gittus and her mom, Lola Virginia Gittus (Stewart).  She is survived by her loving husband, Allan George; two daughters, Shondel and Tamra; her grandkids Shaelyn, Keiran and Brogan; great-grandson, Myles; and brothers, Doug Gittus and Larry Gittus.

The memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 28th at Wheeler Farms in Whitehouse, Ohio.  In the large white barn next to the Wine Room, 11266 Obee Rd., Whitehouse, Ohio, 43571.  Family will arrive at 10:00 am with memorial service starting at 11:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to one of the following charities: Smile Train (https://donate.smiletrain.org), St Judes (https://www.stjude.org), or Disabled American Veterans (DAV - https://www.dav.org)
