November 24, 1956 — December 7, 2015

Slim-isms: I’ll decide!

Hackin’ a path thru the jungle of life with a dull machete.

Wind ‘er tight!

Zing! There goes the egg money.

Are you happy – H-A-P-P-Y?

It’s succulent!

You got the talkin’ part done.

There’s a bulletin.

Slim could say any one of these phrases and the room would erupt with laughter. He had the comic delivery and the knowing grin that drew everyone he met into the party. You may enter a stranger, but you wouldn’t leave as one.

On December 7, 2015, at 4:30 a.m., at his home in Seminole, Florida, Kim left our world surrounded by family and friends, who will miss him dearly. Slim’s friends and their now grown children have a multitude of stories about the great times and adventures they had with him.

Kim was known to everyone as Slim and his working life was a stream of always successful, but varied business ventures. After graduating from Evergreen High School in Metamora, Ohio, he worked as a carpenter and followed that with owning Slim’s Inn Tavern in Metamora, Ohio, which he ran for 20+ years, a bait shop in Florida, another bar and carry-out in Bowling Green, then back to Florida for a Buy-Sell store, a miniature toy business, a pizza shop, and a vending machine service. Slim could analyze a business opportunity and know if it would pay-off by doing the computing in his head.

Kim was pre-deceased by his parents, Paul and Mildred Gillen and sister, Kathleen Hawkins. He is survived by aunts, Dawn Knisel, Maumee, Ohio, and Bridget Demaline of Arizona and 18 cousins. Special memories are in the hearts of his cousins Mary Jo, Mike and Blair Griewahn, Tony, Barbara and Zachary Nykodym, friends Jeff Truckor, Tom Ott, Nancy Lumbrezer, Michelle Ford, and special friend Mary Grimes – all who were with him with him in that last sad week.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 15th from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Metamora (419.644.3601), where a Vigil Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue Wednesday, December 16th from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Assumption, where a Mass of Resurrection will be begin at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Michael Dandurand presiding. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
