Larry N. Mossing

Larry N. Mossing, age 88, went home to be with His Savior, Thursday afternoon, July 28, 2016. Larry was born June 28, 1928 to Leslie and Isabella (Koelsch) Mossing in Metamora, Ohio. The eldest of 6 boys, Larry attended St. Mary’s School in Assumption and graduated from Central Catholic High School in Toledo. On June 12, 1948, Larry married his sweetheart from elementary school, Donna Buckenmeyer. Throughout their 47 years of marriage, they raised nine children.

Larry was always a hard worker. As a young man, he provided for his family working as a plumber. Because vacationing with nine children was nearly impossible, Larry decided to construct an inground pool in his backyard to meet his growing family’s recreation needs. This act of love evolved into a very successful multi-generational business that continues today - Mossing Pools.

Larry was a man devoted to his Catholic Faith. Serving as a Past Grand Knight – Knights of Columbus, Holy Name Society member, lector, choir member and Eucharistic Minister, Larry lived out his faith as an active member of St. Mary’s/Holy Trinity Catholic Parish in Assumption, Ohio his entire life.

Larry enjoyed life to the fullest! In addition to spending time with his family and friends, he loved to travel, golf, dance, bowl, play tennis, walk, sing and listen to music. He was a lifelong learner, always curious about the world around him. He set an example for his children of what it means to honor your marriage vows by being a devoted husband and primary caregiver to his wife, Donna, during her prolonged illness. Following Donna’s death, he was blessed to meet, fall in love with, and marry Dottie Ryan, who brought joy back into his life.

Larry is survived by his children, Karen Pawlaczyk, Debra (Larry) Gaster, Lynne (Jim) Petti, David (Kim), Doug (Barb), Gregg (Donna), Marianne (TJ) Mader, and Julie (Chris) Newcombe. Also surviving are 20 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren, daughter-in-law, Linda Mossing; brother, Dick (Pam) Mossing; and sister-in-law, Marilyn Mossing.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Isabella; Donna, his wife and mother of his children; Dottie, his wife of later years; his son, Dan; son-in-law, Robert Pawlaczyk; brothers, Kenny, Ronny, Tom and Charles “Bud” Mossing; and sisters-in-law, Mary Ann, Ruth and Ann.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Visiting Angels, and the staff at Kingston in Sylvania. A very special thank you to Deanna and Kali.

Family and friends may visit Sunday, July 31st from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Metamora, where the Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Prayers will begin in the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, August 1st, followed by a Mass of Resurrection at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Assumption, with Msgr. Dennis Metzger presiding. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Catholic Church.

We will all miss his quick wit and witty remarks that always made us laugh.

Visitation: Sunday, August 31st from 2 to 8 pm at the Weigel Funeral Home in Metamora

Mass of Resurrection: Monday, August 1st at 11:00 am at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Assumption

Interment: St. Mary's Cemetery in Assumption
