Lary R. LaVigne, Sr

Lary R. LaVigne, Sr., age 77, of Swanton, Ohio, died peacefully in his home, Friday, December 4, 2015. He was born September 9, 1938 in Toledo, Ohio to James L.B. and Mary LaVigne.

Lary proudly served as a Toledo Fire Fighter for 25 years with part of that career as a paramedic. He was honored to be an Exalted Ruler and Leading Knight of the Swanton Elks, where he was also instrumental in starting up the Little People's Golf Clinic. He had three side businesses throughout his career involving fire protection and was a pioneer of the hood cleaning systems in NE Ohio. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and Canadian trips with friends.

He is survived by his first wife, Jo Ann (LaVigne) Sams; sister, Judy Nofziger; brother, Jim LaVigne; children, Lary (Connie) LaVigne, Jr., Thomas LaVigne and Jennifer (Dean) Zocchi; and grandchildren, Abby and Beau LaVigne.

He is also survived by his stepchildren, Debbie Good, Robin Reau, Sheri Gore, April (Tom) Hannus, Chris Corell and Michelle Gregg; 20 step-grandchildren; and 15 step-great-grandchildren.

Lary was preceded in death by his parents and second wife, Karen (Sperry) LaVigne.

Per his wishes, his body was donated to UTMC. A service celebrating Lary's life will be held Sunday, December 13th from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Swanton Elks Lodge, where a Fireman's Last Alarm Service will be held at 4:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Swanton Elks, 116 N. Main St., Swanton, OH 43558.
