Mable I. Rieger, age 96, of Swanton, Ohio, died peacefully on Tuesday, April 12, 2022 surrounded by her family at the Swanton Health Care & Retirement Center. Mable was born August 20, 1925 in Scottsboro, Alabama, to John and Cora (Hughes) Shavers. Mable was married to Clarence E. Rieger for 52 years before he passed away on July 6, 1999.
Mable worked for many years at Rinks Bargain City and then worked and retired from the United Woman’s Christian Thrift Store in Holland. Known for her green thumb, Mable loved flower gardening and could grow practically anything. She also enjoyed caring for her grandchildren, playing croquet, Yahtzee, cards, doing puzzles, and going out to play bingo. Mable also spent a lot of time crocheting, quilting, and watching the Detroit Tigers Baseball.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Harold (Judy) Rieger, Jerry (Connie) Rieger, John (Kristen) Rieger, Deborah (Matthew) Fowler and Dan
(Kim) Rieger plus 19 grandchildren, many great and great-great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Besides her beloved husband, Mable was preceded in death by her parents and 5 siblings, her daughter, Linda Rieger (Kenny) and two grandsons; David Rieger and Christopher Caughhorn.
Visitation will be held Monday, April 18th from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Swanton. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home on Tuesday, April 19th, with Pastor Donna Stutzman officiating. Interment will follow at East Swanton Cemetery.
