Marilyn J. Bonam, lifelong resident of Swanton, Ohio, passed away Sunday morning, May 21, 2023 at the Elizabeth Scott Community. Marilyn was born November 12, 1927 in Swanton, Ohio to Edgar and Donna (Schug) Weihl. As a child, Marilyn attended Trinity United Methodist Church, where she was baptized and confirmed. She graduated from Swanton High School, and earned her Bachelor’s degree in Education from Miami of Ohio. She married John Huston Bonam on September 3, 1949. He preceded her in death on June 30, 2014.
Marilyn was an elementary school teacher with the Swanton Local School District for 30 years, retiring in 1982. She was a member of Providence Lutheran Church for more than 30 years. Marilyn volunteered with Friends of the Swanton Public Library, was a founding member of the Delphians, a local women’s study group, and was active in Delta Kappa Gamma women educators honorary. In her leisure time, she enjoyed traveling with John to many places in North America and Europe. The great joy of her life was a close circle of friends and neighbors who have been there for each other over many years.
Marilyn is survived by her daughters, Sara (Charles) Bonam Welge of Glenmont, NY, Mary (James Mueller) Guerin of Germantown, WI; and grandchildren, Keith (Megan) Guerin and Natalie (Derek) Lopez of Seattle, WA.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 6th from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Providence Lutheran Church on Airport Highway in Holland, OH, where a memorial service will begin at 11:00 am, with Pastor Todd Milner officiating. A luncheon will immediately follow the service. Interment at Swanton Cemetery will be private.
Memorials may be made to the Swanton Schools Foundation and the Swanton Public Library.
