We spent lots of time together in the School at Swanton, then met again at class reunions in Swanton and Delta. We walked to school and back home as children.

I am the youngest of the 7 Shoemaker cousins. My family lived a 4-hour drive away from the rest of the clan. I liked nothing better than trips to gather together, often at Mary and Bill's, to reconnect with aunts, uncles and cousins (and to eat good food!). Mary's voice and laugh could be heard the instant you opened the door. I remember a Thanksgiving that was held at their house and I noticed that there was a big pot of spaghetti, in addition to the turkey and ham. That was very confusing to me, having never seen spaghetti served for Thanksgiving dinner. That was just Mary, taking care of her husband, who didn't like turkey! Such a caring and spunky woman who will truly be missed.

I am a cousin of Mary's and my memories go back to the 1950's. I consider Mary the matriarch of the Shoemaker cousins of which there were originally 7. Her voice and laugh were a signature of hers and so enjoyable, Mary and Bill built a good business and a great family through hard work and love. She was the driving force behind the Shoemaker reunions stocked with great food and lots of enjoyable updates on everyone's family. I'm very sadden by her lose and my heart and love goes out to Bill, John, Jane, Joyce and Jim and their families. A good life well lived. Rest in peace, Mary.
