Mary Ellen Stoner

Mary Ellen (Sargent) Stoner, age 83, of Swanton, Ohio, passed away peacefully, following a brief illness, Wednesday evening, March 7, 2018, surrounded by family, at Ebeid Hospice in Sylvania.  She was born February 8, 1935, in  Perrysburg, Ohio, to Joseph and Leona Sargent.  She was a 1953 graduate of  Lyons High School and married Robert Glen Stoner on June 4, 1961.  Mary worked as a receptionist for Dr. Roger Schlade Chiropractic in Swanton for many years.

Mary and Bob were both proud supporters of the Swanton Bulldogs, and enjoyed traveling to support their grandchildren in their various events as well.  Mary was an active and long time member of Trinity United Methodist Church, and served many roles including Treasurer of the United Methodist Women, Chairperson of the Endowment Committee, member of  the Mary Martha's Circle, and involved with working the annual rummage sale and Christmas cookie shop.  

Mary was a life long member of 4-H.  The Fulton County Fair is one of her greatest pleasures in life.  Mary also took pride in and enjoyed working elections for many years.  

Mary will be remembered as an excellent seamstress.  Friends and neighbors from all over would drop off clothing at her home for her to mend or make alterations for them.  She was currently working on making table runners in preparation for her granddaughters wedding.  As a life-long resident of Fulton County, Mary was very knowledgeable on the history of the area and the residents both past and present.  Mary enjoyed going out to dinner with friends and Saturday morning breakfast at Mom's Restaurant.

She will be greatly missed by her daughter, Gail (Scott) Riches and their children, Brogan and Bertram; daughter, Sue (Rick) Lee and their children, Maggie and Abby.  She was so proud of her family and all of their accomplishments.

Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 51 years, Bob; her parents; and brother. 

Family and friends may visit Sunday, March 11th from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Swanton (419.826.2631).  Visitation will continue Monday, March 12th from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, where services celebrating her life will begin at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor J.T. Bean officiating.  Interment will follow at Swanton Cemetery.
