Matthew John Gross

Matthew John Gross, age 44 of Swanton, Ohio, left this earth, Monday, July 24, 2023. Born in Sylvania, Ohio, on March 24, 1979, to John and Rhonda Gross, Matt’s life was characterized by his love for his family, nature, music, and cooking. He was a compassionate soul who found joy in lending a helping hand to his parents on their farm and embraced the serenity of the great outdoors among trees and nature. Matt’s passion for music led him to appreciate historical timepieces used in movies and had a flair for creating dishes in the kitchen. His wanderlust spirit carried him from coast to coast as he explored the vast beauty of our nation.

Matt’s journey began when he graduated from St. John's in 1997. He attended the University of Dayton and the University of Toledo, and ended up working as a foreman in the construction trade. He was Superintendent for Arco National and recently was hired by Rudolph Libbe. His commitment and expertise were highly regarded within the Carpenter's Union where he was a valued member.

Among Matt’s cherished memories were those filled with laughter. He had a unique talent for roasting people with wit and affectionate humor that brought joy to all fortunate enough to experience it. His quick mind and warm heart created an atmosphere of love and camaraderie that will forever be remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Matt leaves behind a legacy that lives on through his beloved wife, Lyndzie, and their four children, Oakleigh Gross, Charlie Gross, Winter Gross, and Declan Gross. He will forever be remembered by his parents, John and Rhonda Gross, and his brother, Mark (Autumn) Gross; nieces and nephews, Logan, Jazmyne, and John Gross; father and mother-in-law, Tim and Linda Hanley and brother-in-law, Kirk Helmandollar.

Matt was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Gayanne and Roger Ford and paternal grandparents, Ruth and Harold Gross.

Visitation will be held Saturday, July 29th from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Weigel Funeral Home in Swanton, where funeral services will begin at 12:00 (Noon), with Pastor Bruce Perry officiating. Interment will follow at Amboy Township Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers and in honor of Matt, the family suggests planting a tree in his memory.
