Michael George Gombash

January 1, 1961 — May 19, 2025

Swanton

Michael George Gombash, 64, of Swanton, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, May 19, 2025. Toledo’s first baby of the year, he was born on January 1, 1961 to Julius and Delores (Burkhardt) Gombash.

Mike was a 1979 graduate of Evergreen high school. On August 23rd, 1985, Mike married Monique (Vance), his cherished wife of nearly 40 years. Mike pursued his passion for farming in Swanton. With dedication and care, Mike cultivated his fields, proudly giving his all to his work; and loved sharing the fruits of his labor. Mike exemplified and instilled the values of hard work, true grit, and gratitude to his family and surrounding community.

Michael, as a dedicated farmer and devoted father, took great pride in raising his four children, whose lives and accomplishments brought him endless joy. His legacy continues through them and his two beloved grandchildren, who were a constant source of pride and happiness. Mike was eagerly anticipating the arrival of his first grandson, who is expected to arrive next month.

Michael was a rock n’ roll enthusiast. Working around the farm, his radio was always tuned in to classic rock. Evenings at home with his family were permeated by music from his extensive and unique vinyl collection; accompanied by reminiscences of every song that played. Michael especially loved the J. Geils Band, and jumped at any chance to catch them live - or better yet, partake in legendary J. Geils house parties with many family members.

Michael was an ample provider. Extending beyond his love for farming, Mike always lent a hand and supported his family and friends; with both raw skill and blunt wisdom. His generosity was always accompanied with a smile, a smart-ass remark, a joke or few, and contagious laughter.

Mike was a loving and dedicated son, brother, husband, father, Papa, and friend.

Here’s to Mike; Raise a margarita and remember the good times.

Michael is survived by his ‘Honey Bunny’, Monique; Children, Meghan (Lucas) Wensink, Benjamin Gombash, Alyssa (Brandon) Walberg, and Hannah Gombash; Granddaughters, Renée and Lyla Walberg, and soon-to-arrive grandson; His beloved canine companion, Diesel; Siblings, Jeri Szabo, Jim (Ardie) Gombash, Julius (Peggy) Gombash, Betty Stacey, and Grace (Jeff) Householder; and many loving in-laws, nieces, and nephews.

Michael is preceded in death by his parents, Julius and Delores Gombash; and brothers-in-law, Terry Szabo and Ron Stacey.
