Michael H. Lemle

November 15, 1947 — July 20, 2023

SWANTON

Michael H. Lemle, age 75, of Swanton, Ohio, peacefully passed away on Thursday, July 20, 2023, at Heritage Village in Waterville, Ohio, with his devoted wife, Carol, by his bedside.

Michael was born November 15, 1947 in Toledo, Ohio to Walter and Cecilia (Pitzen) Lemle. After graduating from Rogers High School, he enlisted in the United States Army and was a Vietnam Veteran.

After the service, he embarked on a career that spanned an impressive 27 years with Ohio Bell. Michael was committed to his work as he poured his heart and soul into his profession until his retirement in 1996. Even then, he couldn't keep still and continued to find fulfillment through numerous part-time jobs. He married his wife Carol McKenzie on March 23, 1991.

Beyond his professional pursuits and military service, Michael had a love for woodworking. He found solace and joy in crafting beautiful furniture pieces, birdhouses and hope chests. He also took great pride in maintaining a thick, green and meticulous lawn. He loved his Mother's Crystal Pickle recipe for which he canned for many years. As well as a love of hamburgers that began while living near and working for the old Dudley's on Reynolds Road. The outdoors held a special place in Michael's heart, and early on in Michael and Carol's relationship, he eagerly spent weekends fishing with Carol and her kids. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends sitting in the backyard around a roaring and crackling bonfire.

Michael will forever be remembered for his infectious deep laugh that brightened any room he was in. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 32 years, Carol; children, Amy (Chris) Hens, Jennifer Cloutier and Scott Cloutier; grandchildren, Brittany Fox (Austin), Ciara Moore, Scott Cloutier; great-grandson, Jaidyn; his siblings, Shirley Smith, Marty (Pat) Lemle, Walter (Deb) Lemle, Eugene (Linda) Lemle, Marilyn Barnette (Tom) and Donald Lemle; as well as numerous nieces and nephews who some affectionately called him Uncle Geeky.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Fred Smith and sister-in-law Sue Lemle.

Visitation will be held Monday, July 24th from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at the Weigel Funeral Home in Swanton. Funeral service will take place Tuesday, July 25th at 11:00 am in the funeral home, with Fr. Eric Culler presiding. Interment, with Military Rites, will follow at St. Richard's Cemetery.
