Nancy Jeanne Meiring

Nancy Jeanne Meiring, age 83, of Swanton, Ohio, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, Monday, January 9, 2017 at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Toledo.

Nancy was born in Toledo, Ohio on November 20, 1933 to Owen and Hetta (Nedry) Johnson. On January 8, 1968 she was united in marriage to Robert J. Meiring, Sr. Nancy worked for the railroad for many years, while also managing a rental company with her beloved husband. For over 40 years, Nancy and Bob worked together to provide affordable housing to hundreds of families across northwestern Ohio.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband; her eldest daughter, Tana Marie Knauss; stepmother, Sylvia Elnora Barr and siblings, Walter Owen Johnson, Sylvia "Connie" Scott, Mary "Pat" Shellhammer and Owen Patrick Johnson II.

She is survived by six children, Rex P. (Linda) Kline, Kim (George) Gibson, Sylvia Meiring, Robert Jr. (Leanne) Meiring, Walter (JoAnn) Meiring, and Mark (Lori) Meiring; 32 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren, her siblings, Debra Zernhel, Robert Johnson, Theresa Tomsic, Thomas Barr, Brenda McDaniel, Daniel Barr and Dennis Barr; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Nancy was a very active parishioner of St. Richard’s Catholic Church in Swanton, Ohio. Her love of God and unshakable faith blessed her with the ability to support numerous local and national charity organizations, which she did proudly and without reservation. Nancy will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 13th from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Weigel Funeral Home in Swanton. A Mass of of Resurrection will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 14th at St. Richard Catholic Church with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Richard’s Cemetery.
