Naomi D. Nygard, age 90, of Swanton, Ohio, formerly of Neapolis, Ohio, passed away Monday, January 14, 2008 at St. Luke’s Hospital, following a brief illness. She was born July 28, 1917 in Toledo, Ohio to the late John and Fern (Halstead) Cleveland. She married Magna Nygard on August 3, 1935 and he preceded her in death on January 1, 1994. She and her husband lived on Carbon Street in East Toledo from 1939-1963. They moved to Point Place until 1976, then to Perrysburg Township until moving to Neapolis in the 80’s.

Naomi worked for the American Can Company during WWII and the majority of her life as a homemaker. She was a lifetime member of the Ottawa River Yacht Club and enjoyed bowling and camping. She and her husband especially loved traveling throughout the United States and Canada.

Naomi is survived by her daughter, Patricia Rogar of Swanton, OH and son, Terry (Francene) Nygard of Metamora, OH; grandchildren, Michael Rogar, Jennifer Rogar and Jason Nygard; great-grandchildren, Jessica and Johnny Tosney and Michael and Christopher Rogar. Also surviving is her sister, Doris Smitley of Corpus Christi, TX; sister-in-law, Evelyn Cleveland of Holland, OH, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Naomi was preceded in death by her husband, Magna; son, Martin; and siblings, Marydell Coombs, Irene Niederhouser, JB Cleveland and Richard Cleveland.

Friends and family may visit Thursday, January 17th from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Swanton (419-826-2631). Funeral services will be held Friday, January 18th at 12:00 (Noon) in the funeral home with Rev. Mary Sullivan officiating. Interment will follow at North Oregon Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army or the Epilepsy Society.
