Reta L. Meier

Reta at age 95 years old, living in Gibsonburg, OH passed away at Bethesda Care Center in Fremont, OH on Wed. Oct 10, 2018.  She was born June 30, 1923 at Swanton, OH.  She is the daughter of Earl and Christina (Murbach) Shelt.
Reta was a 1941 graduate of Swanton H.S.  She attended Stautzenberger Business School and Nyack Bible College.
Reta married Wayne Meier 2 weeks after he was sent home on leave on Sept 20,1944.  They lived in Swanton for many years and was a member of the Swanton Alliance Church. Wayne and Reta were married for 68 years.  They enjoyed singing and toured with the “Sounds of Hope Choir” to Europe and she also sang with the Ohio State Senior Choir. They moved several times and settled in Gibsonburg to be near their family.
 

Wayne and Reta had 3 children: Lucia, who is deceased, Leland (Maureen) of Vermilion, OH, and Barbara (Keith) Kolkemeyer of Gibsonburg, OH.  They have 2 grandchildren:  Megan (Brad) Billet, of West Point, VA and Jessica Kolkemeyer of Gibsonburg, OH.  They also have 2 great-grandchildren:  Mallory and Elijah Billet.
 

Reta worked with the Alliance Youth group for many years and they were involved in the youth Bible quizzing . They won several trophies.  She also helped the youth working with the Migrants for many summers.  As a couple, they worked at Beulah Beach painting buildings during the summers.
 

Reta was the organist at the Swanton Alliance church for many years and worked with the Ladies Missionary group also.
Preceding her in death are her parents Earl and Christina (Murbach) Shelt, sisters’ Margurite Shelt and Ila (Robert) Clay, her Husband Wayne Meier, daughter Lucia, and daughter in law Nancy Meier.
 

The Memorial Service will be November 10th,  2018  at 11:00 at the Weigel Funeral Home, 204 Chestnut Street, Swanton, OH.
 

The family has suggested in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Alliance Missions thru the Swanton Alliance Church.
