Robert D. Kaczmarek, Sr., "Kazz", age 84, of Swanton, Ohio passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family in his home on Friday, March 2, 2018. He was born August 24, 1933 in Toledo, Ohio to Felix Kaczmarek and Sophie (Kujawa) Napierala. Robert proudly served in the US Air Force during the Korean War. He married Shirley Askins on December 18, 1954.
Robert worked as a jet mechanic while in the service. Following the service, he went to work for Teledyne for 18 years, then worked in maintenance for Johnson Controls for 15 years, retiring in 1999. He was a member of the VFW, and enjoyed traveling. Robert loved to restore old cars, and was very proud of his 1936 Ford Coop that he restored.
He will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Shirley Kaczmarek; children, Steven (Cynthia) Kaczmarek, and Lori Ruckman; grandchildren, Joshua and Courtney Kaczmarek, Dirk (Ashley) Ruckman, and Shelby Ruckman; great-grandchildren, Brady and Colby Ruckman; sisters, Betty Young, Mary Smith, and Antoinette Gillen; brothers, Danny and Michael Nowak.
He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Robert Kaczmarek, Jr.; sisters, Veronica Mazurek and Joanne Ballinger; and brother, Richard Kaczmarek.
Family and friends may visit Tuesday, March 6th from 2:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Swanton (419.826.2631). Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, March 7th at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home, with Rev. Donna Stutzman officiating. Interment will follow at Dutch Ridge Cemetery.
