Sandra Ann Pifer

Sandra Ann Pifer, age 67, of Whitehouse, Ohio passed away on Friday, February 26, 2016, surrounded by her loving family, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. She was born to Donald and Marjorie Miller on February 11, 1949. Sandy grew up in Marygrove/Raab’s Corners and attended Immaculate Conception grade school. A graduate of Metamora High School in 1967, she took great pride in paying her way through Adrian College, where she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education in 1972. After graduation, Sandy worked as the Travel Coordinator for Champion Spark Plug for ten years, before leaving to raise her family. Sandy married her high school sweetheart David Pifer on October 6, 1973. She was blessed with two wonderful and dedicated children (Marshall & Tara) whom she nurtured into the caring and loving parents of her beloved grandchildren.

Sandy was a wonderful person inside and out. She loved her family, and was always willing to help in anyway she could. She was not only a mother to her two children, but also her seven younger siblings, many nieces and nephews, and countless friends of her children, including the neighborhood clan. Sandy loved to cook and bake….there was always a warm meal on the table, and baked goods nearby. Her sisters will miss her dearly for their annual Christmas cut out cookie baking.

Sandy valued family and friendships. She and her siblings, especially the sisters, had a special bond. She looked forward to and treasured gatherings with her high school and college friends.

She loved the great outdoors. She cherished her time spent taking Lucy for walks, riding her bike, maintaining her beautiful gardens, and beautifying Springbrook Farms Lake. She always made sure the birds and squirrels were fed. She loved trips to Ft Lauderdale, and strolling the beach with her sisters at the Coral Cay.

Her husband of 42 years, David, will dearly miss her presence in his life and will be hard pressed to have her gardens and the “estate” look half as magnificent as her hard work generated.

Sandy was preceded in death by her parents Donald and Marjorie Miller, and sister Bonnie Kashmer. She is survived by husband, David L. Pifer; children, Marshall (Natalie) Pifer and Tara (Henry) Geha; grandchildren, Lilly, Isabella, Cassidy, Hank and soon-to-be Finley. Also surviving are sisters, Janice (Stan) Ray, Susan (Scott) Clendenin, Carol (John) Gordon and brothers, Alan (Diana) Miller, Gary (Linda) Miller, and Terry (Lisa) Miller; and brother-in-law, Jerry Kashmer.

The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the countless family and friends whom have been alongside us during this journey, whether it was with meal planning, keeping Sandy company at chemo, flowers, cards, simple visits, prayers; none of which went unnoticed. A special thanks to Father Pat Rohen and the Sisters at the Notre Dame Provincial House for their spiritual support throughout this painful journey. Thank you to Dr. Timothy Kasunic and Dr. Donald Vogel and their staff, especially Mindy in the Infusion Center, for your caring, yet aggressive treatment to meet the complex demands of this disease, and to Hospice of Northwest Ohio for your care of Sandy during her final days.

Family and Friends may visit at Weigel Funeral Home, 204 Chestnut St. in Swanton (419.826.2631) on Monday, February 29th from 2-8pm. The Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue Tuesday, March 1st from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, 1750 N. Raab Rd. Swanton, where a Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Patrick Rohen, Captain, U.S. Army (Retired) presiding.

In lieu of flowers Sandy asked that remembrances be directed to Holy Trinity Church or Cherished Friends of Ahava, 34 S. Saint Clair Street, Toledo, OH 43602.

Mass of Resurrection: Tuesday, March 1st at 11:00 am at Immaculate Conception Church
