Spencer R. Niles

Spencer R. Niles, age 85, of Delta, Ohio, died peacefully in his home surrounded by his family, Friday morning, January 4, 2019.  He was born September 30, 1933 in Toledo, Ohio and grew up in Sylvania.  Spencer attended grade school at Nazareth Hall and graduated from Burnham High School in 1953, where he was a star quarterback and captain of the football team. He served 9 years with the Ohio Army National Guard.  He married Joyce Meredith Niles and she preceded him in death.  On November 21, 1987, he married Peggy Stultz.

Spencer worked as a project manager and estimator in the industrial and electrical trade, and was a 60-year member of the IBEW Local 8.  He was also a proud member of the Delta American Legion Post 373.  Spencer loved being around the water.  He and his wife, Peggy spent many weekends going to the islands fishing and boating.  He also had a passion for antique cars.

Spencer is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Peggy; his children, Tim (De) Niles, Andrea Voogd, David (Linda) Flores and Connie (Jim) Malphrus; his grandchildren whom he adored, M. David Voogd, Audrey Voogd, CJ Voogd, Jackson Malphrus, James Malphrus and Jason Mitchell (Fiancee Ashley).  He is also survived by his siblings, Linda (Jack) Quinn, Judy (Larry) Haas, Tim (Sharon) Stultz, Pam (Ron) Moore, Rob (Josie) Stultz, Randy (Susan) Stultz and Ronny (Amy) Stultz; as well as his many beloved nieces and nephews.

Besides his first wife, Joyce, Spencer was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Curtis A. “Bud" Niles; brother-in-law, Michael D. Stultz and sisters-in-law, Shirley Stultz Davenport and Shari Stultz Morrison.

The family extends a heartfelt thank you to Spencer’s special friends at Hands of Grace and to Rev. Teresa Wenrick for her devotion to this local ministry.  Also thank you to his special caregivers, Debra, Cindy, Vickie and Susan and the loving care of the Promedica Hospice Team.

Funeral services will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 9th at Trinity Lutheran Church in Delta, with visitation continuing until 8:00 p.m.
