Thelma Jane Scherzer

Thelma Jane Scherzer, age 86, of Swanton, Ohio, entered eternal life, Wednesday morning, June 29, 2022 at Promedica Ebeid Hospice in Sylvania. She was born August 2, 1935 in Toledo, Ohio to Daniel William and Loretta Mae (Townsend) Eldred. She married John “Dick” Scherzer on November 23, 1957. He preceded her in death on September 24, 2015.

Thelma was a very active member of Immaculate Conception (Holy Trinity) Catholic Parish at Marygrove. She was in charge of the funeral dinners and devoted time with the upkeep of the church. Thelma loved playing cards, working crossword puzzles and garage saling with her girlfriends. Thelma will be remembered as a very generous woman. She was the person people could count on visiting them in the nursing home or driving them to appointments.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Sherry (Leroy) Kozlowski, Barbara Deck (John Kramer), Ross (Emily) Scherzer and Jeffrey (Cindi) Scherzer; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Brenda Cunningham and sister-in-law, Catherine Eldred.

Besides her husband, Dick, Thelma was preceded in death by her parents; son, Michael Scherzer and daughter, Karen Reed.

Visitation will be held Thursday, July 7th from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Holy Trinity-Immaculate Conception Church on Raab Road, where a Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 am, with Fr. Michael Dandurand presiding. Interment will follow at Marygrove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Parish or Promedica Ebeid Hospice.

Dear Family,
This news saddens me, Thelma and I had been friends for around 65 years. To find out 2 months after her passing it makes it even harder to accept. I will miss her random visit; she always put others first. God called her home to be among His angels. Knowing she is at peace and no longer in pain warms my heart. Love to you all

I just heard of Thelma's passing. My heart goes out to you all for this loss. What a very special and giving person she was. She will be missed.
Prayers that your memories will help you durning these hard days. Funny thing is she has popped into my find several times this last few months. I should have known something was up. God Bless you all.

Both Thelma and Dick were wonderful, kind, and sweet people. You didn\'t have to be related to them to feel like family. They were among those from their generation who made Immaculate Conception Church (Marygrove) feel like home. Sending heartfelt thoughts and prayers to the family during this time of great loss yet taking comfort in knowing there is great joy in Heaven for Thelma and Dick.

Thelma was a hard working, fun loving, spirited person who was devoted to Immaculate Conception Raabs. You could always count on her to be available to help in any way needed. She was a good friend to my mother, and I know they had lots of fun together! Our thoughts and prayers are with her family,

Thelma was a great supporter of her parish and the Altar Rosary. We all enjoyed her garage sale gifts for our Christmas Bingo.
