Thomas Ambrose Herr, Sr.

Thomas Ambrose Herr, Sr., age 91 of Metamora, Ohio, passed away peacefully in his home, Saturday afternoon, July 25, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Tom was born September 7, 1934, in Assumption, Ohio to the late Ambrose Omer and Irene Elizabeth (Eisel) Herr. Tom was one of the first graduating classes of St. Mary’s school in Assumption, class of 52’. He served in the United States Army, and on November 9, 1957, he married Lynn Katherine Lawecki.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Tom's long and meaningful life left an indelible mark on everyone who knew him. Tom was proud to be a lifelong farmer, growing tomatoes for Hirzel Canning Company, corn, soybeans and wheat; and took pride as owner of a recognized 4th Generation Century Farm started by his grandfather. Tom established Triple H Farms in 1990 with his wife and son. He was a member of the Fulton County Farm Bureau and was inducted into the Fulton County Agricultural Hall of Fame. His family hosted the 2023 Fulton County Breakfast on the Farm, where Tom enjoyed the day sharing the family farm history with visitors who came from all around.

A devout Catholic who prayed the Rosary daily, Tom was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish and served as a past parish council member. He was a life-member of the Catholic War Veterans Post #306 in Assumption and The Son’s of the American Legion Post #479 in Swanton.

Community was important to Tom, and his roots in Assumption and the surrounding areas were always a source of pride and connection for him. He found joy in the company of family and friends and treasured the simple moments spent together. Tom was highly involved with his grandchildren and the youth. He served 30 years as a 4-H advisor. He was even recognized as Hometown Hero at Evergreen High School. All who knew Tom will remember him for his gentle spirit, wisdom, and the steadfast support he offered to those he knew and loved.

Tom was the beloved husband of Lynn, with whom he shared over 68 cherished years together. They built a home filled with warmth, laughter, and enduring love. Tom was the proud father of five children: daughters Debbie (Scott) Weihl, Diane Herr, Suzanne (Jeff) Mueller, and Joan (David) Miller, and his son, Thomas, Jr. (Jenny) Herr. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Davey (Tina) Studenka, Brent (Brittany) Studenka and Christopher Studenka, Nicholas (Meghan) Hardy, Mitchell (Lauren) Hardy, Danielle (Frank) Szedely and Kelsey (Jeremy) Howe, Austin Miller, Kyle Miller, Nathan Herr, Hannah (Tony) Boger and Allison Herr, and Patrick and Leann Weihl; great-grandchildren, Braden and Brodi Studenka, Jaret Studenka, Hayes and Riley Studenka, Audrey and Mila Hardy, Eila and Millie Hardy, and Ambrose and Elvira Boger; as well as his two sisters, Cecilia Mattimoe and Catherine Herr.

Family and friends may visit Wednesday, July 29th from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Weigel Funeral Home in Metamora, where a Vigil and Rosary service will begin at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue Thursday, July 30th from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Assumption, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am. Interment, with Military Honors, will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.
