Thomas Andrew Martin, age 87, of Pettisville, Ohio, entered into eternal rest, Sunday afternoon, August 16, 2009, after a brief stay at Fulton Manor in Wauseon, Ohio, following hip surgery. He was born November 21, 1921 in Toledo, Ohio to Ralph and Hariett (Durnell) Martin. On January 22, 1954, he married Mary Kathleen Murphy of Roscommon, Ireland. Thomas was a U.S. Navy 2nd Class Petty Officer and WWII veteran, who served on the USS Intrepid and USS Suisun. He trained as a boxer in Pensacola, Florida during the service.

Thomas worked 27 years for the Jeep Corporation as a timekeeper, retiring in 1976. He was a member of St. Caspar Catholic Parish in Wauseon, Charter member of St. Mary’s Catholic War Veterans Post #306, Wauseon VFW Post #7424, Wauseon American Legion Post #265, and UAW Local 12.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Mary, and nephews, Robert (Joan) Martin of Whitehouse, OH and James (Maureen) Bishop of Toledo, Ohio.

Thomas was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Harold.

Friends and family may visit Wednesday, August 19th from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home, 204 Chestnut St. in Swanton (419-826-2631). Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 20th at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Fr. Robert Holden will officiate. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery with military honors.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
