Virgil William Mosiniak

February 15, 1930 — April 11, 2024

Metamora

Virgil William Mosiniak, age 94, of Metamora, Ohio, slipped peacefully into the arms of our Lord on Thursday morning, April 11, 2024 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Toledo. He was born February 15, 1930 to Frank and Rose (Wiza) Mosiniak in Toledo, Ohio, the youngest in a large Polish family that attended Our Lady of Lourdes Parish.

Virgil was a 1949 graduate of Springfield High School, where he played football and excelled as a pitcher in baseball. After an injury kept him from going pro, he kept his love of athletics alive by coaching baseball in his later years and always rooting for Notre Dame football. A devout Catholic, Virgil was a long-time parishioner of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish in Assumption, and he proudly served as a medic and chaplain’s assistant in the United States Army.

He was an original member of Club 16, where he made lifelong friends and memories. On October 15, 1955, Virgil married the love of his life, Joanne Pinkelman.  The two built a life devoted to faith and family, filled with warmth and joy over the next 68 years together.

In fact, Virgil spent much of his life building - both professionally as a brick mason and as a hobby. He dedicated his time and skill around the community as a volunteer bricklayer, where he helped build fireplaces and houses for neighbors and various projects at Holy Trinity, including the outdoor altar. He also took great joy in creating things for his children and grandchildren - building a home, grottos, woodworking toys, and furniture. He delighted in building and painting birdhouses, elaborately covering the house with Christmas lights each year, and regularly taking his beloved lawnmower for joyrides.

Whether cracking jokes, stealing cookies from the cookie jar, or turning up the polka music,  Virgil always had a determined twinkle of mischief in his eyes that brought smiles and laughter to those around him. With a kind and loving heart, and a gentle spirit, Virgil never met a stranger - rather, he would take the time to talk to anyone and offer a smile, kind words, or an ear to listen. His was a full life - an enduring legacy of his determination, strength, loyalty, faith, and love of his wife, family, and friends.

Virgil will be greatly missed by his children, Michelle (Bill) Sheehan, Lynn Hinkle, Gary (Andrea) Mosiniak, Denise (Scott) Streng, and Julie (Tony) Mancuso; grandchildren, Kaeleigh, Benjamin, Celine, Meisha, Hannah, Gabrielle, Olivia, Madeline, Maria, Andrew, Michael, Joseph and Anthony; great-grandchildren, Brooklyn, Graham, Taylor, AJ, and Jazzy, as well as many nieces and nephews.

In death, Virgil is reunited with his beloved wife Joanne; his parents; his brothers, Frank, Ted, Al, Bill, Mike, and John; and sisters, Eleanor Schuette and Teen Johnoff.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 16th from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 am, with Fr. Walter Tuscano presiding. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Assumption.

Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Catholic Church or Catholic War Veterans Post #306.

Arrangements by Weigel Funeral Home (419. 644.3601).
