William B. Crockett, Jr.

William Burton Crockett, Jr., age 97, of Metamora, Ohio, passed away peacefully, Tuesday morning, December 8, 2020 at Parkcliffe Community in Toledo.  He was born November 8, 1923 in Metamora, Ohio to William Burton, Sr. and Clara (Ries) Crockett.  Bill was a 1942 graduate of Metamora High School.  He married his first wife of 42 years, Shirley Thompson.  She preceded him in death on June 14, 1987.  On March 26, 1988, he married Lorraine Wellendorf in Seminole, Florida.  She preceded him in death on February 27, 2019. 

Bill was a member of the Metamora United Methodist Church, Fraternal Order of Odd Fellows, Wauseon and Maumee Elks Lodge and the Maumee Eagles.  He enjoyed dancing, fishing, golfing and playing cards.  Six months out of the year, for the past 35 years, he spent the winters in Florida.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Carole Crockett and Clara Marie (John) Gryca; grandchildren, Farah (Eoin) Killeen, Alona (Matt) Earl, Marissa (Rob) Dick, Lisa Gryca, David Hill and Andrew (Jennifer) Hill; 8 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; sister, Carrie Fisher; sister-in-law, Lois (Kenneth) Rice.

Besides Shirley and Lorraine; Bill was preceded in death by his son, Barry Crockett; son and daughter-in-law, David and Cecelia Crockett; grandson, Clayton Napier; sisters, Eleanor Crockett, Celma Sloan and Leona Slona; brother, Almond Crockett; and stepdaughter and son-in-law, Judith and Martin Hill.

A special thank you to the wonderful caregivers at Parkcliffe-7 South, especially, Francine Birden for 11 years and Lisa Stills, and many others who provided such good care of Bill.

Visitation will be held Friday, December 11th from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., at the Weigel Funeral Home in Metamora, Ohio, where funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Heather Schimmel officiating.  Interment will follow at Amboy Township Cemetery.
